Description

The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), the iconic planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius. The image is a combination of the narrow-band (H-alpha and OIII) and RGB data taken with the 250mm f/4 Lacerta PhotoNewton and ZWO ASI294MM Pro camera over several nights in September 2023. NGC 7293 was a tough target to both image and process, considering its low position in the sky (33 degrees maximum elevation) and mediocre seeing conditions.

The synthetic luminance was produced using H-alpha, OIII and RGB star data. R color channel is a blend of the broadband and narrowband images (R and H-alpha). B channel image is a blend  of OIII, H-alpha (to simulate H-beta contribution) and B bands. The narrowband exposures were taken with camera gain 200 and 300. The RGB data was captured at gain 108.

Exposure Details:
Ha: 10x600s (Gain 200, bin 1x1), 17x300s (Gain 300, bin 1x1)
OIII: 21x600s (Gain 200, bin 1x1)
R: 20x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)
G: 10x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)
B: 10x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)

Total exposure time: 8.6 hours
